Q21. Why are some symbols not displaying correctly in my eBook or why is the file failing during the conversion process?

Answer –

This issue is often caused by unsupported or improperly embedded fonts used for special symbols in your source file. If the symbol’s font is missing or not correctly applied, it may either fail to display or cause errors during the eBook conversion process.

Recommended Fix –
Please ensure that:

  • All special symbols have the correct font applied (e.g., Wingdings for arrows or checkmarks, Segoe UI Emoji or Noto Color Emoji for emojis).
  • The font is fully embedded or properly recognized by your authoring tool.

After updating, regenerate and upload the corrected file for conversion.

How to Fix in Adobe Acrobat Pro:

  1. Open your PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro
  2. Click “Edit PDF” from the right-hand menu
  3. Select the text or symbol that is not displaying
  4. Then either:
    • Paste the symbol or emoji directly (if supported by your system font)
    • Change the font to Segoe UI Emoji, Noto Color Emoji, or another system-supported font
  5. Save and re-export the PDF

Alternative Option:

  • If symbols still fail to display after font correction, you can:
Convert the symbol into an SVG or PNG image and insert it in place of the original symbol
  • This ensures consistent display across all devices and avoids font dependency issues during conversion
